One of the most interesting questions we are often asked at shows, such as the Toronto Gourmet Food and Wine Expo of last week, is “how does one correctly taste wine to get the full experience of the taste and the aroma of wine…?” Imagine the look on the lady’s face when I blurted out my answer during one of the seminars: “Just pucker up, Ma’am!”
That’s right. You don’t gulp wine, or merely drink wine…but you sip wine with a subtle slurp if you really know what you’re doing it. An equal amount of oxygen must cross your lips at the same time as the wine so as to continue to liberate the aromas and the wonderful flavors you started to release when you gently swirled your glass before bringing it to your mouth.
Just like kissing it. Now, you can tell how good this wine really is. …and that’s why I always kiss and tell. And you should too.
